Profile

Dr. Naoki Shibata is an assistant professor at Innovation Policy Research Center, The University of Tokyo and also a visiting scholar at CSLI, Stanford University. His interests are Management of Technology and Information Science focusing on detecting emerging research fronts by citation analysis and natural language processing. He received his BS, MS and Ph.D degree from The University of Tokyo in 2004, 2006, and 2009. He is a Technical Program Committee in The 2010 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM2010) held on December 2010 in Macao, Hong Kong. He is a member of The American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), Information Processing Society of Japan, and The Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence.

Prior to being an assistant professor The University of Tokyo, he has an industrial experience as a product manager at CEO office of Rakuten Inc., one of the largest internet company in Japan. One of his achievement was to develop the strategy to get more traffic from outside Rakuten’s ecosystem and manage a team to launch Rakuten’s APIs, which is the most used webservice in Japan. He also developed algorithms of contextual and affiliate-based advertisement engine, map-based community service, and EAN-based catalog service.
